3 Technics That Will Have You Crushing Corporate Headshots

Had the pleasure of doing some headshots for Coldwell Banker and one of their new agents so I thought I would share a couple of technics I use to get people looking there best.

#1 How You Hold Your Arms

Hands On Hips

Holding A Sub

People tend to want to put there hands on their hips for headshots but this is probably the worst thing someone can do. As you can see it makes the profile very wide. The next best is hands to your side. This comfortable and does not look bad but if you put your arms out and to the sides (like your holding a large party sub) you will slim the profile even more.

#2 How You Hold Your Head

Forehead Towards Camera and Down Slightly

Your jawline is very important when it comes to having a pleasing headshot. The best way to control this is by the movement of your head. Having the subject move there forehead towards the camera and down slightly will have a dramatic effect on how the shadows roll-off the chin, jaw, and neck.

#3 How You Hold Your Eyes

Normal or Wide Eyes

Lower Eyelid Lifted

Lower Eyelid Lifted

If eyes are the window to the soul then telling the right story with them is super important. You don't want to have the deer in the headlights look but for some reason whenever people start looking down the lens of a camera its starts creeping in. I like having the subjects squint but with only moving there bottom eyelid. Now I'm not talking full blue steel with the puffed out lips and all but slightly lifting that bottom eyelid will go a long way. Look confident, not wide-eyed scared.
